One Wave Festival and Earthdance 2012

ONE WAVE returns to Spirit Square on September 22nd, and we are thrilled to share the square this year with EARTHDANCE 2012! The day will bring together musicians, storytelling, live art, interactive music making, poetry, a spiral dance and more! Topped off with free funky grooves with some of Victoria's favourites.. Compassion Gorilla and the Party on High Street!

The square will be a buzz with performances by Victoria's Poet Laureate Janet Marie Rogers, Juniper Tree storytelling, and Esquimalt Nation Dancers. A ONE WAVE Village of artists and community groups will host Indigenous arts, face-painting, and a community art project. Be sure to check out the World Fisheries Trust's seaquarium, where you can meet and greet sea creatures! At 4pm, join in on the international Earthdance and Prayer for Peace! Then local musicians will take the stage and share some tunes. Don’t forget your dancing shoes!

. : The Party on High Street : .
thepartyonhighstreet.com
Founded in Nelson, B.C. four years ago, The Party on High Street is a trippy musical navigation through rockin’ blues grooves, jazzy feel-good improvisations and mid-song funk downs. They are continually conjuring up original psychedelic FUN-rock and refreshing “anything goes” music to treat the soul.

. : Compassion Gorilla : .
compassiongorilla.com
Compassion Gorilla began forming in early 2008 as a small but adventurous and energetic quartet and has been snowballing ever since, finally arriving at its current 8-piece form. Never ceasing to connect with diverse audiences, they have played such wide-ranging venues as elementary school fairs, city squares, pubs, nightclubs, gulf island halls, summer festivals, coffee houses, house parties, rallies, and marathon sidelines: they've made dance parties of all of them.

. : Pigeon Park : .

Pigeon Park, a Vancouver-based rock band, was formed in 2008 out of a mutual love for creating and writing music. Intertwined with blues, reggae, and funk infused roots, the band has crafted a sound that is truly their own. Branching out into many styles of music, they continue to grow with the seasons.

. : Torrey Archer : .
A local singer and songwriter, Torrey and her guitar offer original soulful folk music, with a few well known songs thrown in.

Each year Our Earthdance has taken on a different flavour - both as a result of the global theme passed down to us from Earthdance.org, and also as a result of our internal wish for diversity of entertainment, of location, and of sophistication!

...
This year our team is late in the creating, so we have partnered with our friends at the ONE WAVE FESTIVAL to share a fun & meaningful day at Centennial Square for family & friends to come together and celebrate what globally represents the world’s largest music festival for peace!

The square will be a buzz with performances by Victoria's Poet Laureate Janet Marie Rogers, Juniper Tree storytelling, and Esquimalt Nation Dancers! A ONE WAVE Village of artists and community groups will host Indigenous arts, face-painting, community art projects, performances and more. Be sure to check out the World Fisheries Trust's seaquarium, where you can meet and greet sea creatures! From 3-8 PM, local musicians will take the stage and share some tunes. Don’t forget your dancing shoes!

This free, all-ages daytime event in Centennial Square will runfrom noon-8pm, and the Earthdance specific 18+ dance party ($15) in the evening at Sunset Room will run from 9pm-4am. We hope you will join us for both!

For the daytime event, come with some food & drink for yourself & friends and we will do the same! Bring much water. Also, weather varies - so be prepared for hot during the afternoon and COOL after the spiral dance - though not immediately ;)

Thanks for your years of support of Earthdance on Vancouver Island, and we look forward to once again spiraling with you this coming weekend. Bless!!
